Abstract
Objective: To correlate the presence of Systemic Arterial Hypertension in patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Juiz de Fora – MG with the clinical outcome presented. Methods: This is an observational and cross-sectional study, in which 179 medical records of patients admitted with COVID-19 were analyzed in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Juiz de Fora – MG, from June 2020 to January 2021. Results: Higher mortality rates were observed in older individuals. The presence of Systemic Arterial Hypertension and the patient's sex did not prove to be predictive factors of severity, as the ANOVA tests did not indicate a significant statistical difference. Conclusion: The highest risk of severe cases and deaths due to COVID-19 was observed in elderly individuals, which enables the development of appropriate professional conduct for this specific group, preventing unfavorable outcomes.
