Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the prevalence of electronic cigarette (EC) use among Health Science students at a University campus. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with 270 participants using a questionnaire comprising 15 questions on age, gender, marital status, family income, course of study, frequency of EC use, and awareness of health risks. Results: The majority of participants were female (63.7%), single (96.5%), and had a family income exceeding ten minimum wages (50.7%). Among the respondents, 52.6% declared themselves as EC users, with 68.3% of them also using tobacco. Although 74.8% of the users were aware of the health risks associated with ECs, approximately 30% were still uninformed. The association between EC use and gender, income, and course of study was statistically significant. Conclusion: In conclusion, ECs are widely used by health science students, despite being prohibited for commercialization in Brazil, highlighting the need for awareness campaigns about the associated risks.
