Abstract

Objective: Demonstrate the approach of psychostimulants in binge eating disorder, considering not only the clinical aspects of the disorder, but also the social, cultural, and psychosocial contexts in which patients are inserted. Literature review: The impact of binge eating on individuals' quality of life is profound and multifaceted. In addition to adverse physical effects, such as increased risk of chronic diseases, episodes of binge eating can lead to feelings of shame and low self-esteem, significantly impairing patients' psychological and social well-being. Lisdexamfetamine is the first medication approved for the treatment of binge eating disorder, studies have shown a significant reduction in binge eating symptoms. However, the heterogeneity of available clinical studies may hinder the interpretation of results and the generalization of conclusions to the clinical practice of many medications. Final considerations: Therefore, it is possible to perceive that the use of psychostimulants in patients with binge eating disorder plays an important role, especially in patients who do not have good results with other therapies, such as psychotherapy or surgery. However, the need for more studies at various levels is evident.
