Abstract

Objective: To analyze the association between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) with the development of insulin resistance (IR), including the types of treatments involved. Methods: This consists of an integrative literature review conducted in September 2024, using the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health (PubMed) and Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS) databases. The descriptors used, based on the Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS), were “polycystic ovary syndrome” and “insulin resistance,” combined with the Boolean operator AND. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and literature reviews were excluded, and studies freely available, published between 2019 and 2024, were included. Results: This article was developed based on the analysis of 15 studies addressing the correlation between PCOS and insulin resistance, including the necessary interventions for these conditions. The findings are presented in Tables 1 and 2, which includes the authors and the main findings. Conclusions: Based on the analysis of the studies, it can be concluded that women with PCOS have a higher tendency of developing IR, and there are treatments that can attenuate these outcomes.
