Abstract
Objective: To report a case of Takayasu arteritis with infrarenal abdominal aortic stenosis in a smoking patient. Case report: A 52-year-old female patient presented with symptoms of intermittent claudication associated with pallor, absence of pulses in the lower limbs, and a 10 kg weight loss over two months. In 2018, angiography revealed infrarenal abdominal aortic stenosis, and the patient underwent abdominal aortic angioplasty with stent placement. In 2023, stenosis was observed in both the right and left common iliac arteries, and bilateral stent angioplasty was performed. The patient consulted a rheumatologist because intermittent claudication persisted, and after recurrence of the stenosis, she was diagnosed with TA in 2024. Final considerations: The reported case, along with the reviewed articles, discusses the course, therapeutic approach, and impact of TA. Early diagnosis and the use of advanced imaging modalities are essential for detecting vascular involvement and monitoring disease progression. When an appropriate and individualized therapeutic strategy is implemented, combined with lifestyle modifications, the prognosis is generally favorable for most patients.
