Abstract
Objective: To investigate pregnant women’s knowledge about breastfeeding during prenatal care, describing the sociodemographic profile and analyzing its association with individual characteristics. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study conducted in 2025 with 100 pregnant women receiving care in public and private health services in Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil, selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire addressing sociodemographic aspects, breastfeeding knowledge, practical management, and received support. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The mean age was 28.5 ± 4.8 years. A high level of knowledge regarding the fundamentals of breastfeeding was observed, with 96% of the participants classified as having high knowledge, with no differences between types of health services. However, gaps in practical management were identified, such as belief in the “weak milk” myth. Significant associations were found between age, educational level, and income and the receipt of guidance and support (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Pregnant women demonstrated satisfactory theoretical knowledge about breastfeeding; however, practical weaknesses and unequal access to qualified guidance persist. This highlights the need for multiprofessional educational strategies during prenatal care, particularly focused on clinical management and equity in care.
