Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the benefits of using Fingolimod in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis according to each age group. Methods: The methodological part is formed by the National Library of Medicine, the Virtual Health Library and the Directory of Open Access Journals, which were the databases used to form the bibliographic compilation of this literature review. The descriptors used were “Multiple Sclerosis”, “Drug Therapy” and “Fingolimod Hydrochloride”. Inclusion criteria were articles from clinical trials, randomized or non-randomized, case-control studies, cohort study, open access, published in English, Portuguese, Spanish and in the period from 2018 to 2023. Results: Of the five articles selected, reduced relapses with the use of Fingolimod, better sustained efficacy in the long term, better outcome in the treatment of African-American patients with MS when compared to others, and also that a greater cost-effectiveness was found in the treatment with Fingolimod when compared to other medications. Final considerations: Thus, with the use of Fingolimod, they report a reduction in relapses and also have better sustained efficacy in the long term. Furthermore, the average age addressed for this treatment is 37.5 years.
