Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the benefits of renal and cardiovascular protection by the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors. Bibliographic review: Dapaglifozine and other drugs of this class are responsible for inhibiting the co-carrier sodium glucose 2 and this causes a reduction in blood glucose, increased secretory function of cells β - pancreatic and increased natriuresis. In this context, a set of studies pointed to decreased risk of developing renal failure, heart failure as well as the increased survival of these patients and patients with T2DM who may or may not present complications related to these systems. Final considerations: The SGLT-2 inhibitors showed evidence of mechanisms related to renoprotection such as the induction of glycosuria, increased linear transition between reabsorption and renal glucose excretion and cardioprotectors as a decrease in pre- and post-glucoseload, improvement in diastolic function and, therefore, it is necessary to analyze its possible side effects so that the risks and benefits support its use in renal and/or cardiac patients.
