Abstract

Objective: To describe the asthma management in pregnant women and its consequences to the mom and the infant. Methods: This study is an integrative review of the literature, applying the PICO strategy (acronym for P: population/patients; I: intervention; C: comparison/control; O: outcome/outcome). The search will be carried out using Health Descriptors (DeCS)/Medical Subject Headings (MeSH): combined with the Boolean operator AND and OR: of the key words that were defined using “pregnant”, “asthma” and treatment”. In databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), PubMed Central®. Results: It has been observed that asthma during pregnancy can cause adverse consequences for both the mother and the baby. In this sense, it can affect the baby's cardiac function, worsen diastolic functions, increase rates of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, low birth weight, congenital anomalies, spontaneous abortion and premature labor, among others, such as those related to the advent of pneumonia. Furthermore, in relation to mothers, levels of postpartum depression increase, likewise with the feedback of the higher obesity rate. Final Considerations: It can be concluded that the active adult population participating in this study has inadequate knowledge about functional foods, which are not included in their usual diet.
