Abstract

Objective: to evaluate how climacteric symptoms affect female sexuality and mental health. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, in which six stages of elaboration were followed. The guiding question was established by the PICo method and, to choose the articles, three different databases and the PRISMA method were used as a way to include and exclude literature. The research carried out identified 603 articles, of which 20 were included and analyzed in full. These are articles published between 2019 and 2024, with a predominance of cross-sectional studies. Results: female sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction, depression and negative feelings, relationship problems, negative sociocultural and individual beliefs about menopause and other effects were the main results found in the literature, and they are closely related to each other. Final considerations: it is concluded that there are complex effects of the climacteric on women, covering physical and psychological symptoms, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary interventions, including hormonal therapy, psychological support, education on sexual health and physical activity. Although there are limitations and the need for more research, a comprehensive and sensitive approach to promoting women's health and well-being during this phase is crucial.
