Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the use of complementary therapies in the treatment of depression in Primary Health Care. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, based on scientific studies, in English and Portuguese, published in virtual databases Library Virtual Health (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), which addressed the effectiveness of complementary therapies in the treatment of depression. Results: The results found suggest that complementary therapies can be effective in reducing depressive symptoms and promoting general well-being. However, there is consensus on the need for more high-quality studies and adequate training of professionals to integrate these practices more effectively into Primary Health Care. Furthermore, such therapies are seen as a viable and low-cost alternative, but face significant barriers related to infrastructure and their formal recognition in healthcare. Final considerations: The use of complementary therapies has proven its effectiveness as adjuvants in the treatment of depression, recommending them to reduce depressive symptoms and as aids in reducing the side effects of antidepressants.
