Abstract
Objective: To analyze the level of knowledge of first and fourth-year medical students at the School of Medicine in the Alto Tietê region regarding the topic of first aid. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, utilizing a quali-quantitative online questionnaire to assess students' knowledge levels. The questionnaire targeted adult students of both genders and examined their understanding of first aid techniques and the emergency situations in which they feel most comfortable intervening. Thirty-seven multiple-choice questions were developed, covering topics such as presence of vital signs, seizures, sprains, suspected cervical spine fracture and immobilization, cardiac massage, muscle strain, fractures, fainting, and shock. Results: During data collection, 83 responses were obtained. Among the provided responses, it was observed that 97.6% of the students agreed on the necessity of knowledge in first aid techniques to prevent deaths and mitigate sequelae during their practice. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of educational interventions and practices on first aid in the education of medical students. This knowledge will be essential for their future clinical practices.
