Abstract

Objective: To provide knowledge about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), as well as the pathophysiology, etiology and conceivable therapeutic treatments. Bibliographic review: PCOS is a condition marked by hormonal imbalance in women. It is an endocrine anomaly that affects women of reproductive age, characterized by being spread in a highly hereditary way, in which such alteration is observed even in the uterine environment. Determined by irregular menstrual cycles, high levels of androgens in the body, small cysts on the ovaries, total absence of ovulation and/or irregular egg release from the ovaries, androgen excess, and clinical symptoms such as hirsutism, alopecia, acne, dysfunction, infertility, problems with body weight, in addition to being considered a risk factor for the development of other diseases. The therapeutic approach aims to condense the signs of hyperandrogenism, a dietary reeducation, and regularize the lipid profile of each patient. Final considerations: Therefore, this hormonal dysregulation can affect issues related to women's self-esteem and even make pregnancy difficult. Therefore, the relevance of an intervention by a multiprofessional team is observed, reducing the effects arising from the syndrome.
