Abstract

Objective: To present the bone mineral disease (BMD) and the importance of its diagnosis for the structuring of a better management of the nephrological patient. Bibliographic review: It is estimated that 10 million people have chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Brazil. In this context, the loss of renal function associated with the increase in serum phosphate, the systemic decrease in calcium and calcitriol lead to a potent stimulus for the development of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) that results in systemic involvement. The diagnosis of BMD-CKD is based on laboratory analysis of calcium, phosphate, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and vitamin D. Intervention in BMD-CKD in patients with CKD stages 3 to 5 should include improvement points of vitamin deficiency D and the regulation of phosphorus, calcium and PTH values. Final considerations: Given the increase in the number of patients with CKD nationwide, and the constant changes in clinical guidelines, it is important to update medical knowledge in relation to this clinical condition in order to ensure better management of patients with impairments. kidneys.
