Abstract

Objective: To analyze different diagnostic tools for appendicitis in children. Methods: A search was carried out on the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), LILACS and Cochrane platforms, leaving a total of 15 articles. The inclusion criteria include articles published in the last 3 years, full and free text, clinical study, randomized and controlled clinical trial, controlled clinical trial and observational study, articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish. And having as exclusion criteria literature review articles, summaries and meta-analysis, articles that deviate from the proposed topic and duplicates. Results: Five articles were found that used blood markers for diagnostic evaluation, such as: bilirubin count, LRG1 marker, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, CRP, IL-6 and hyponatremia, which showed a good yield. The N-GAL marker and platelet count showed a moderate yield. The Alvarado clinical-laboratory scale was also analyzed in three articles, with a positive result in two and a negative result in one. The pARC calculator did not reduce the use of imaging tests for diagnostic confirmation. Final considerations: Through the analysis of the works, it was evident that there is still no consensus regarding the best tool for diagnosing appendicitis in childhood. In conclusion, it is necessary to have a combination of tools for better management.
