Abstract

Objective: To understand the perception of patients who have resumed hemodialysis after losing their kidney graft. Métodos: This was a qualitative descriptive field study, using an instrument with guiding questions whose answers were analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis. Results: The sample consisted of eight subjects aged between 29 and 74, five men and three women. Two participants had undergone two transplants each. The time taken for patients to return to hemodialysis treatment after graft loss ranged from 2 months to 14 years. The categories of discourse analyzed were: “Experiencing Renal Transplantation”, “Experiencing Hemodialysis”, “Perspectives on Renal Transplantation” and “Communication and the work of professionals as an instrument of care and choice of treatment”. Final considerations: The return to dialysis therapy after kidney transplantation can generate suffering and expectations for patients, so recognizing and understanding the difficulties faced by patients, as well as having a multi-professional team involved in the process of change and return to dialysis therapy is important to promote the search for well-being and satisfaction in the return to hemodialysis after the loss of the kidney graft.
