Abstract

Objective: To describe an academic experience involving early recognition and initial management of a situation suggestive of acute ischemic stroke in the emergency department, highlighting care organization, multiprofessional communication, and telemedicine support as formative elements. Experience report: Supervised practice in an emergency service in the São Paulo countryside, during an academic internship, with participation of students from the Academic League of Urgency and Emergency (LAUE) alongside an interprofessional team. The experience included triage and early recognition of suggestive neurological signs, targeted history-taking with family members, organization of the care pathway, and activation of remote specialist support, using an institutional digital tool (Join app) for secure communication and alignment of clinical decisions. Final considerations: The experience reinforced the central role of early recognition, interprofessional coordination, and remote support in strengthening emergency care, while consolidating essential training competencies such as clinical communication, patient safety, and teamwork in a regional setting, with a focus on patient safety.
