Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical and functional results of knee arthrodesis using a circular external fixation. Methods: Patients who underwent arthrodesis using a circular external fixator, treated in a tertiary orthopedics hospital. Ten cases were obtained and the frequencies were estimated in relation to demographic and surgical aspects. Pain and quality of life were obtained using the Visual Analog Pain Scale (VAS) and the Short-Form Health Survey- 36 questionnaire (SF-36), respectively. Results: Most patients were male (70%, n = 07), with a mean age of 56 years. After surgery, all patients had an axis between 0 and 7 degrees of valgus. Consolidation average time 5.8 months. Regarding pain, in the postoperative period there was a 100% improvement compared to the preoperative period. As for quality of life, school-age patients above 50% of the maximum value in all domains. Conclusion: Knee arthrodesis with the use of a circular external fixator complements the patients with a good consolidation time, improves the quality of life with a stable limb, without pain and with a small difference in length.
