Abstract
Objective: To analyze diagnostic methods for obesity, relating the incidence of acute myocardial infarction in obese individuals. Methods: The methodology of this work proposes a compilation of bibliographic research with a qualitative approach and descriptive character by an integrative literature review in the National Library of Medicine, Virtual Health Library and Directory of Open Access Journals databases. The descriptors were “Myocardial Infarction”, “Incidence” and “Obesity”. Inclusion criteria were journal article, clinical trial, clinical trials, randomized or non-randomized, case-control studies, cohort study, free access, published in English, Portuguese, Spanish and between 2017 and 2022. Results: The methods The diagnoses for obesity presented were Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), Visceral Adipose Tissue (TAV) and individual weight perception. The most used was the Body Mass Index, showing differences in the clinical outcomes of acute myocardial infarction. Final considerations: The most used diagnostic method was BMI, which proved to be inadequate to investigate cardiac outcomes in obese individuals. The CC is the best method, due to its easy access and good relationship with cardiac outcomes associated with abdominal obesity.
