Resumen

Objective: To report the association of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) with the most common ophthalmologic manifestation, which is Anterior Uveitis (UA). Case details: A 64-year-old female, white, retired, born in Volta Redonda-Rio de Janeiro attends the ophthalmologic consultation with a complaint of pain in the left eye associated with ocular hyperemia and increased intraocular pressure. Therefore, the diagnosis of anterior uveitis affecting the left eye was made, which resulted in a posterior synechiae causing ocular adherence. The patient was referred to the rheumatologist, who diagnosed ankylosing spondylitis with HLAB27 positive and showing an abnormality on X-ray of the lumbar spine. Final considerations: It is evident that Acute Anterior Uveitis (AAU) may be the initial manifestation of an AS, and collaboration between ophthalmologists and rheumatologists is essential in order to carry out increasingly earlier diagnoses and more effective treatments in the management of the disease through a multidisciplinary approach.
