Abstract

Objective: To study and review the preventive/therapeutic management of children undergoing leukemia treatment to obtain a better quality of life and a positive result to eliminate the disease. Literature review: Leukemias are characterized as a malignant disease, and their first manifestations occur in the oral cavity and are divided into acute and chronic, which ramify into lymphoid or myeloid. Its treatment is performed through surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The most common oral alterations caused by the treatment are: mucositis, xerostomia, candidiasis and aphthous lesions. Final considerations: The performance of the dentist in partnership with the oncology team is very important for the outcome of the treatment and a better quality of life for the patient. For the dental professional, it is essential to know how to analyze the exams, both blood and imaging exams, in addition to intra and extra oral exams, for a precise positioning in the face of disease.
