Abstract
Objective: To compare the two main forms of treatment of anterior diastema: orthodontic and restorative. Methods: This is an integrative literature review based on SciELO, PubMed and Lilacs databases, with the following inclusion criteria: articles published in full in Portuguese, English and Spanish between 2010 and 2022. Results: Based on the articles found, the discussed forms of treatment are effective, but it is necessary to obtain a correct diagnosis so that the best option is instituted for each patient, always aiming at adequate functionality and pleasant aesthetics. Final considerations: Diastemas can cause aesthetic damage to the patient, so it is up to the dentist to correctly diagnose the etiology and identify the best course of action to be followed in the clinical case, taking into account the patient's expectations and their financial condition. In some cases, treatment can be multidisciplinary, combining orthodontics and restorative dentistry.
