Abstract
Objective: To compare changes and impacts of adenotonsillectomy surgery on children's quality of life and sleep. Methods: Consist of an observational, 29 children aged 4 to 12 years with previous indication of adenotonsillectomy for having MBS and their tutors answered questionnaires related to quality of life (QVRO) and quality of sleep (PSQI) before and 6 months after surgery. Results: In the application of the PSQI questionnaire, it was observed that 62.5% had poor sleep quality and 37.5% had good quality before surgery. The application of the QVRO questionnaire observed poor quality of life among mouth breathers. The questionnaire applied 6 months after the surgery showed a significant improvement in the participants' quality of life and sleep (p = 0.002), mainly in the “Nasal”, “Sleep”, “School” and “Food” domains, confirmed by the statistical significance. Conclusion: Surgery improves the quality of life and sleep in patients with mouth breathing syndrome for obstructive cause.
