Abstract
Objective: To gather, synthesize, and compare publications in the literature addressing the potential of species from the genus Capsicum spp. in neuropathic pain control. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with a qualitative approach, conducted through searches in online databases: PubMed, Scielo, and Lilacs. The search used the following descriptors: pain, neuropathic, capsicum, analgesia, in both English and Portuguese languages, alone and combined, using the boolean operator "and". Inclusion criteria comprised original articles, systematic reviews, articles published in journals, books, and master's dissertations, with full-text and open access, published between 2020 and 2024, focusing on the use of Capsicum L. and its applicability in neuropathic pain treatment. Exclusion criteria included conference abstracts, proceedings, articles behind paywalls, and publications unavailable in full. Results: Thirty-three articles were selected, all in English. Among these, only eight met the inclusion criteria. All analyzed articles demonstrated some effect of Capsicum spp. in neuropathic pain through capsaicin action, covering its molecular mechanism and comparison with traditional therapies. Final considerations: The use of capsaicin shows promise, as recent studies have demonstrated its effectiveness, but further research in this area is warranted.
