Abstract
Objective: To investigate the imaging aspects of dental alterations in childhood cancer survivors, considering the late effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on crown and root development. Literature Review: The studies analyzed show that patients undergoing antineoplastic therapy during childhood may present dental agenesis, microdontia, root malformations, and enamel hypoplasia. The severity of these changes is directly related to the age at which treatment begins, the type and intensity of therapy, and the radiation dose applied. Exposure during critical stages of tooth development can also impair the formation of the dental lamina, leading to failures in the initiation of development. Panoramic radiographs are considered a fundamental resource for early detection and longitudinal monitoring of alterations, enabling better therapeutic planning and timely intervention. Final considerations: Childhood cancer survivors have a significant risk of dental anomalies, requiring continuous clinical and radiographic monitoring. Despite advances in oncological therapies, the standardization of dental monitoring protocols remains a gap that should be addressed in future research.
