Abstract
Aim: To analyze epidemiological aspects of viral meningitis in the State of Piauí from 2007 to 2017 obtained from the Information System of Notification Diseases (SINAN). Methods: this is a retrospective and descriptive epidemiological study of a population, in which secondary data from cases of viral meningitis occurring between the years 2007 to 2017 were used, evaluating aspects related to gender, age, race, confirmation criteria of the disease, number of cases in the municipalities of the state of Piauí and clinical evolution of the disease. Data were tabulated using the Tabnet program, which were then exported and analyzed in the Microsoft Office Excel 2016 program. Results: There was a decrease in the number of confirmed cases of viral meningitis from the year 2009. Individuals most affected by the disease are male, with ages ranging from 05 to 09 years. The predominant race is brown. As for the municipalities with the highest incidence of confirmed cases, Teresina appears in the first place. In relation to the confirmation criteria, chemocitological was the most used. It is noted that the most frequent clinical evolution was hospital discharge. Conclusion: The results indicate that there is a reduction in the number of confirmed cases of viral meningitis in the state of Piauí with beginning of 2009, being in the municipality of Teresina the place with more confirmed cases.
