Abstract
Objective: to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of pregnancies over 40 weeks in a philanthropic hospital in the interior of São Paulo. Methods: This is a descriptive, analytical and retrospective study, carried out from January to July 2018, in which the medical records of 154 pregnant women were evaluated. Results: 83% presented age between 18 and 35 years; 63% presented gestational age (GI) between 40-41 weeks, 34% between 41-42 weeks and only 4% above 42 weeks; 59% underwent cesarean section and less than 6% of the patients had comorbidities. Regarding the newborns, 86.4% presented adequate birth weight and the proportion of complications in pregnant women who underwent cesarean delivery was significantly higher than those that evolved during normal delivery. The proportion of complications (comodistócia, fetal bradycardia and macrosomia) in pregnant women who underwent cesarean delivery was significantly higher than the proportion that progressed to normal delivery (p = 0.018). Conclusion: the knowledge of the characteristics of these pregnancies in relation to maternal and fetal data can be useful for the planning of strategies of the basic and specialized services at the regional level.
