Abstract
Objective: To understand the intergenerationality of violent behavior in the lives of women victims of violence by their intimate partners. Methods: Strategic Social Research with a qualitative approach, carried out with 10 adult women using public health services in a municipality in the State of Goiás. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, after transcribed, they were analyzed using the thematic modality content analysis technique. Results: Two categories emerged: “The family context of childhood” and “The intergenerationality of violent behavior”. Conclusion: Violence has been present in the lives of these women since childhood, having a significant impact on their behavioral repertoires today. Such influence is observed in their affective relationships and, consequently, impacting the lives of their children, characterizing the intergenerationality of violent behavior. This is an important factor in the perpetuation of violence against women, which should be considered when assessing cases of intrafamily violence, including in the health and nursing care process for women who are victims of violence.
