Abstract

Objective: To identify the scientific productions on the active teaching and learning methodologies used in higher education in health sciences. Methods: Integrative literature review in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde and Education Resourcers Information Center databases, carried out between June and July 2021. The descriptors “teaching”; “education, higher”; “health sciences” were used.  Results: The final sample consisted of 37 articles, which described a variety of teaching and learning methodologies. The most used teaching methodologies were simulation, flipped classroom, and team-based learning. Final considerations: Active methodologies were understood as the central axis of teaching and learning activities, being effective for contemporary training in health sciences, as they enable collaborative and meaningful learning, as well as the development of essential skills for graduates of this area.
