Abstract

Objective: To analyze the anatomical aspects that contribute to avascular necrosis of the scaphoid bone. Bibliographic review: Scaphoid bone fractures represent 90% of carpal bone fractures, their diagnosis and late treatment result in complications such as non-union and collapse of carpal bones and increase the risk of post-traumatic avascular necrosis (NAV). Avascular necrosis is characterized by failure in the consolidation process and depletion of the bone substrate. It was identified that non-surgical interventions, even performed at the beginning of the disease, have no effective action and the disease always progresses to surgical intervention. Symptoms are limited mobility, swelling and pain. Non-vascularized bone grafts; vascularized pedicled bone grafts; free vascularized bone flaps and also costal cartilage grafts are good measures to use in the treatment of osteonecrosis. Final considerations: The theme that encompasses necrosis to many vascular care, this is because it has a strong impact on public health damage to the extent that its patient recovers a large number of care and the quality of the patient's life becomes too much in their activities. That said, it becomes essential as possible causes of avascular necrosis and how the anatomy is in this process.
