Abstract

Objective: To evaluate nurses' knowledge and perception of self-efficacy about Palliative Care in Family Health Units (USFs) in the urban area from a municipality in Bahia, Bahia, Brazil. Methods: It was a cross-sectional, descriptive study that was carried out between July and October of 2019, with 13 nurses from USFs in a municipality in Bahia, using the “Bonn Palliative Care Knowledge Test” questionnaire. Results: The nurses had a good performance in questions about the principles of PC, but They demonstred little knowledge about pain control, family care, interpersonal communication, spiritual care and identification of the final stage of life. About the perception of self-efficacy, they considered themselves less capable of integrating the cultural aspects of death and dying in end-of-life care. Conclusion: It was identified knowledge gaps that could contribute to the development of continuing education initiatives for primary care professionals, in order to ensure the integrality of care in the Unified Health System.
