Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients hospitalized for Covid-19 in a public hospital in Minas Gerais. Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional study based on electronic medical records. The population consisted of patients with laboratory confirmation for Covid-19 between March 2020 and March 2021. Demographic data, clinical manifestations and comorbidities were analyzed. Results: 92 patients diagnosed with Covid-19 were included. Most patients were male (62.0%), with a mean age of 58 years. The most prevalent comorbidities were hypertension (40.2%), diabetes (21.7%) and heart disease (9.8%). The most common symptoms were dyspnea (64.1%), fever (48.9%) and dry cough (42.4%). Thirty-seven patients (40.2%) required care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and of these, only one did not receive invasive ventilatory support. The mortality rate at the research institution was 33.7%. Conclusion: According to the data collected, it was observed that the majority of people infected with Covid-19 were male, with an average age of 58 years and with at least one underlying disease. The most prevalent symptoms were dyspnea, fever and dry cough.
