Abstract

Objective: Report a clinical case of myofibroma, aiming to increasing knowledge about this rare tumor in childhood and the importance of pediatric dentists in the diagnosis and management of this lesion. Case report: A 4-year-old pediatric patient, melanoderma, resident in a city in Ceará, in a pediatric consultation presented with an increase in volume in the left submandibular region. A clinical and radiographic examination was performed, where no cause was found for the appearance of the lesion, being referred to the facial maxillary surgeon. The patient was referred to a hospital where an incisional biopsy was performed in which the histopathological diagnosis was myofibroma. After the diagnosis was established, the definitive treatment of the lesion was total surgical removal of the lesion. The patient was discharged and had postoperative follow-up of 06 years. Final considerations: Myofibroma has a difficult clinical diagnosis. It is important that the pediatric dentist is able to perform the detailed oral examination, thus establishing early referral diagnosis and treatment.
