Abstract

Objective: To analyze the expenses of the Unified Health System (SUS) with hospital admissions for the surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy, between 2010 and 2020. Methods: This is a descriptive study in a time series, based on data of the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS). Data were collected regarding the surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy from 2010 to 2020 in Brazil. Variables analyzed: number of hospitalizations, total value and average value spent per hospitalization in the period. Results: In the analyzed period, Brazil registered 102,737 hospitalizations for the surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy. The year 2010 had 7,547 hospitalizations, with a total expenditure of R$3,940,735.79. While the year 2020 recorded 10,686 hospitalizations and an expense of R$5,764,523.44. The total cost of hospitalization during the decade was R$55,078,927.34, with an average value per hospitalization of R$536.06. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is an increase in the total value, due to the increase in the number of hospitalizations, over the analyzed period. This finding points to the need to improve early diagnosis, aiming to better optimize public spending and available resources.
