Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of pain and the perception of patients with fibromyalgia about pharmacological and / or non-pharmacological treatment for chronic pain in Bahia city. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, whose data interpretation was based on the association of quantitative and qualitative approaches, with analysis of statistical and content data, presentation of data and categories that emerged. Results: It was found that among the 71 participants, a predominance of females, aged between 40-50 years, an average time of diagnosis of 8.3 years, with a prevalence of severe pain of 59.2%, causing polypharmacy in the search for pain reduction, associated with non-drug treatment, with emphasis on psychotherapy and dance. The irregularity in the proposed treatment was identified, having as main reason the abandonment of the treatment due to the occurrence of side effects of the prescribed drugs. Conclusion: In view of the impact of fibromyalgia pain on health condition, functionality, and quality of life, the importance of a multiprofessional approach, with a treatment plan centered on the individual, became evident.
