Abstract
Objective: To raise beliefs about the use of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Descriptive study with a quantitative-qualitative approach. The sample consisted of people over 18 years of age, not health professionals, with domain for recording and sending audio through social networks. The presuppositions of the Theory of Planned Behavior were used, with open questions, in an individual structured interview, searching for beliefs (behavioral, normative and control), later submitted to descriptive and content analysis. Results: it is understood the importance of identifying beliefs about the use of masks as a preventive measure for the COVID-19 pandemic, the findings reveal that family members and closest ones have a strong influence on adherence, others stated that the use of masks brings benefits with regard to control and transmission, the ease of use of masks is also highlighted, however, some individuals reported difficulty in accessibility for use. Conclusion: These beliefs are extremely connected with adherence to the use of masks and with the prevention and spread of COVID-19, which becomes an essential tool for the knowledge of individuals and reveals which strategies will be most appropriate for professionals to use, resulting in multidimensional health care.
