Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific articles that approach the shift change through standardized instruments, to promote the understanding of the instruments and their context in the hospital environment. Methods: This is a bibliographic, descriptive study, type integrative literature review, sequentially composed of 5 steps: elaboration of the guiding question “What has been published about the use of standardized instruments in hospital shift change?; elaboration of inclusion and exclusion criteria and their applicability; analysis and evaluation of selected studies; interpretation of results with presentation of the review/synthesis of the articles and finalization with the conclusion of the study. The following scientific databases were used for searches: BDENF, MEDLINE, LILACS, Acervo+ Index Base and Search Google Scholar, through the descriptors “After-hours care” and “communication” and the keyword “Shift Change”, in the last 10 years. Results: The standardization of shift change through instruments contributes to effective communication, data management and continuity of care. Final considerations: Nursing has been opening paths in the standardization of the shift change over other categories. Fostering communication research is investing in quality and patient safety.
