Abstract

Objective: To identify the level of self-esteem of university mothers of undergraduate courses of a Higher Education Institution in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: Quantitative research, developed with 31 undergraduate students who had children up to two years of age, carried out in a Higher Education Institution. Data collection took place through the application of a characterization questionnaire and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data were organized in the Epi-info® program (version 7.2.3). The analysis was performed using descriptive statistics in the statistical program R. Results: Most university mothers were white, aged between 20 and 29 years, had a partner and a child. In terms of academic results, 22 never dropped out of the course and 28 did not receive any type of student assistance. These women did not participate in teaching, research and extension activities. Regarding self-esteem, 21 university mothers have moderate self-esteem. Conclusion: It was concluded that university mothers face tough challenges to reconcile studies and maternal demands, generating stress, low self-esteem, lack of motivation to complete the course.
