Abstract
Objective: To perform an analysis of the possible psychological and social consequences caused by gingival smile. Bibliographic review: Given that smiling is our biggest calling card, the effort for perfection is increasing. The search for a more harmonious face directly affects self-esteem and interpersonal relationships, research indicates that 88% of people would change something in themselves. Access to media has increased the public's demand for consumption and novelty, we can also highlight the influence of the family context that can lead to future problems such as low self-esteem. Final considerations: It grows exponentially in dental offices looking for aesthetic procedures, being the responsibility of the dentist, to welcome, to have empathy and recognize that the consultation goes beyond the walls of the office, it is necessary to discern the patient as a "being" and worry about both physical and mental health, go beyond and plan the best treatment for the case, providing improvements in the quality of life of the patient.
