Abstract

Objective: To compile the data collected about the Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) to facilitate the search for information on the subject. Bibliographic review: PFPS is a quite common complaint in the medical office, characterized by pain in the anterior region of the knee, triggered or exacerbated by overload. It can chronify and hinder the patient's basic activities and physical activity, more incident among adolescents and middle-aged individuals and more prevalent in women, has a delay in diagnosis. The best way to prevent the syndrome is to identify the modifiable risk factors and intervene early by means of muscular strengthening of the lower limbs. Final considerations: The treatment must be individualized and maintained for prolonged periods due to the high rates of recurrence and chronicity, to improve the patient's quality of life due to the impact on routine activities caused by the pathology.
