Abstract

Objective: To identify and map the impacts of Covid-19 on the mental health of the nursing team in intensive care units. Methods: This is a scoping review, carried out according to the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ Manual. The data search was carried out from November to December of 2021, in seven databases. The analysis was performed using simple descriptive statistics. Results: 16 studies published in the years 2020 and 2021 were included, from 12 countries, with a predominance of studies form the European continent, having as main areas of knowledge nursing, medicine and psychology. It was found that the main impacts on the mental health of the nursing team were stress, anxiety and depression. The strategies predominantly used to mitigate such impacts were psychological interventions, provision of adequate biosafety training and guidelines for early identification of signs of mental illness. Final considerations: The mental health of the nursing team working in the scenario studied suffered several impacts, mainly associated with overwork, lack of personal protective equipment and fear of infection, thus, comprehensive actions of care for the mental health of this population are suggested.
