Abstract

Objective: To assess, through a review, the consequences of COVID-19 infection in pregnant women. Bibliographic review: Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) infection is an emerging pathology that was first identified in December 2019, in China. COVID-19 has a high potential for morbidity, mortality and transmission, affecting people of different ages and clinical conditions, including pregnant women. Clinical manifestations can range from asymptomatic cases to more severe cases and may even lead to organ failure and sepsis. Most pregnant women only have flu-like symptoms or fever, this symptom being predominant, but not always manifested before the baby is born. The course of the disease is usually uncomplicated, and the patient is discharged from the hospital within a few days of conception. However, systemic complications and the need for longer hospital stays were associated with pregnancy. Final considerations: The results are very variable, ranging from simple symptoms such as fever, headache and cough, to larger and more serious ones such as severe pneumonia, ARDS and even death.
