Abstract

  1. Objective: To analyze the clinical benefits of implanting the Ferrara ring in patients with keratoconus. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out through the search of complete articles, in full, in 2017-2022, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, related to the objective of the work, in the main libraries: VHL, Science Direct and SCIELO, crossing the DeCS: “keratoconus”, “Ferrara”, “implantation” and as a Boolean operator “AND”. The following guiding question was used: Can the Ferrara intracorneal ring bring postoperative benefits to patients undergoing this surgical procedure? The selected articles were systematized, extracting relevant information and interpreting the main data. Results: From 251 articles, 17 of them were used in the construction of this work. The implantation of the Ferrara intracorneal ring is a surgery that minimizes the damage caused by keratoconus, as well as reduces the progression of the disease, constituting a detailed procedure, however beneficial from a clinical point of view. Final considerations: In this way, it is clear that the implantation of the Ferrara ring brings numerous benefits to the patient with keratoconus, in improving visual acuity, refraction levels and corneal topography, preventing progression and stopping the development of the disease.
