Abstract

Objective: To present and identify the development of Opsoclonus–Myoclonus–Ataxia Syndrome (OMAS) secondary to a Paraneoplastic Syndrome due to a teratoma present in the right ovary. Case Detail: A 15-year-old female patient with no previous comorbidities was hospitalized with vertigo, myoclonus and nystagmus, associated with a palpable abdominal mass in the right iliac fossa, the hypothesis Opsoclonus-Myoclonus-Ataxia Syndrome was raised and investigation of paraneoplastic syndrome, with tomography of the lower abdomen and magnetic resonance of the pelvis, with evidence of cystic formation in the right ovary being related to teratoma. Subsequently, an exploratory laparotomy with right adnexectomy was performed, and anatomopathological examination showed a mature ovarian cystic teratoma without malignancy. After stability of clinical symptoms, he was discharged for outpatient follow-up. Final considerations: The early identification of paraneoplastic diseases in adolescent patients with clinical presentations suggestive of OMAS is important for the proper diagnosis and management, avoiding worse neurological and behavioral complications that can be installed with the delay in the recognition of the disease.
