Abstract

Objective: To know the fears, anxieties and concerns of nurses in the first months of the pandemic and how they felt on the front line in the fight against Covid-19. Methods: This is a part of the qualitative research of an autobiographical nature that aims to map the reality experienced by these professionals throughout the national territory. 76 nurses participated in the research. Data collection took place between May and July 2020. Results: Most of the reports showed that the greatest fear of front-line nurses was related to contamination of themselves and loved ones. With the work overload and the decrease in the number of professionals, the assistance and care process weakened. In this bias, acting on the front lines in a pandemic like Covid-19, caused a diversity of feelings and emotions. Insecurity and fear, evidenced by unfavorable working conditions, were triggers for the increase in the incidence of burnout syndrome. Conclusion: The wear and tear suffered by them emphasizes that in order for the quality of care to be preserved, maintaining mental health, human and physical resources in institutions are allies, as it must be taken into account that they are people who take care of people.
