Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impacts of anxiety and stress on the immune system and its implications. Bibliographic review: Stress and anxiety are physiological relationships of the human organism in the face of existential situations inherent to the context of an individual or his psyche. Several changes are observed in the human body systems, such as the immune, cardiovascular, endocrine and nervous systems when stress and anxiety are exacerbated and chronic, from peripheral and central inflammation. These inflammations induce the elevation of monocytes and pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6 and increase of free radicals in the circulation, which damages the cellular components. In this way, the consequences of these processes can generate or worsen diseases, in view of the inherent disorders that can be triggered. Final considerations: Due to the high incidence of stress and anxiety in today's society, it is necessary to understand the numerous effects exacerbated by these pathologies that lead to immune suppression. Affected individuals tend to develop and/or worsen several conditions, such as: alopecia areata, herpes viral activation, irritable bowel syndrome and dermatoses such as psoriasis.
