Abstract
Objective: To identify the benefit of using botulinum toxin in reducing migraine symptoms. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, of a descriptive and qualitative nature, based on detailed studies found in the U.S. databases. National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health (PUBMED), Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Google Scholar, after applying the search words “Botulinum toxin and migraine” with the filters: space temporal from 2017 to 2022, articles published in English and Portuguese. Results: According to the study, it was observed that there are several factors that contribute to botulinum toxin acting in the reduction of migraine in patients, with the most frequent application on the scalp (43.75%), followed by administration in several cycles (25%) and, finally, the use in the subcutaneous and intramuscular routes associated with the number of analgesics application represented 18.75%. These results were the basis for a qualified treatment after correct diagnosis, in an attempt to minimize the consequences of the disease. Final considerations: For chronic migraine, which impacts the lives of patients, the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in the treatment of this disease has been demonstrated, based on satisfactory and safe results in terms of use.
