Abstract

Objective: To identify the main risk factors for acute kidney disease (CKD) in intensive care units (ICU) and the role of nurses for patients with acute kidney disease. Methods: This is an integrative review of the last six years, related to the occurrence of acute renal failure in ICUs, as well as the care of nurses. The search for scientific literature was carried out in databases such as the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scielo, Acervo + Index Base and Google Scholar search engine. The review has 20 articles from national and international scientific productions corresponding to the topic. Results: Patients with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus were the most affected by CKD and, also, intensive support in the ICU increased the chances of developing the clinical condition. Nursing interventions were aimed at monitoring, early identification, prevention and treatment of acute renal failure. Final considerations: It is evident that CKD is a multifactorial clinical condition, common in ICUs. Patients with comorbidities are more susceptible. Nursing care with risk of infection and electrolyte imbalances were the main ones observed in the selected studies.
