Abstract
Objective: To report a clinical case of a patient who had a cerebral abscess secondary to the presence of a brain neoplasm. Case details: A 50-year-old female patient was in a University Hospital, with a history of daily headache, starting 3 weeks ago, of a progressive character, which did not relent with symptomatic use. The condition evolved with loss of strength, paraesthesia, facial paralysis and speech impairment. A computed tomography scan of the skull was performed, which revealed a circumscribed lesion with perilesional edema in the left temporoparietal region. In surgery for biopsy of the lesion, the presence of an abscess was found, being drained. Proven neoplasia by the result of the biopsy, the patient was referred for treatment at a specialized center in oncology in the State. Final considerations: The follow-up of the present case proved to be interesting due to its rarity, considering the presence of the abscess due to the existence of a neoplasm in the same location, an occurrence hardly found in the literature, mainly due to the fact that the colonizing bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus, which is a skin bacterium.
