Abstract
Objective: To compare results between Bypass and Sleeve techniques in relation to weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), abdominal circumference, resolution of hypertension, diabetes and postoperative complications. Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, with convenience selection of 20 patients seen at a reference hospital in the amazon region who underwent one of the two techniques studied. The hospital's database was used, analyzing pre- and postoperative periods after 1 year. Results: There was statistical relevance of both techniques in weight loss, BMI reduction, abdominal circumference, blood pressure and fasting glycemia. However, there was no statistically relevant difference when comparing the positive impact of both techniques on the mentioned parameters. In absolute values, weight loss by Bypass was more effective, being the only parameter to show a difference. Conclusion: Both techniques have a positive impact on quality of life and obesity treatment. In the literature and in this study, weight loss and control of comorbidities at 1 year postoperatively showed no difference between the techniques, however, in the long term, the Bypass obtained greater significance. Many studies still show great sample variability, demonstrating the need for new researches elucidating the subject better.
